July 1, 2026 - Flying to Indiana
Heading to Indiana this morning to pick up Lynnette who is visiting her friend.  Looks like a nice day for it.  I was flying solo today.
   
I'm being watched at the north end of the runway,
   
These three deer are very interested in me.
   
Passing by Baltimore.
   
Classic architecture.
   

Construction is underway on a new Pimlico racing facility.  The state has committed $400 million in bonds for demolition, design and reconstruction.  The plan is for the Preakness to return to Pimlico in 2027.

Pimlico opened in 1870, making it the second-oldest racetrack in the United States.
   
Looking southwest at a strange sky.
   
My airspeed isn't too bad at altitude.

Passing overhead Wheeling Airport in West Virginia.
   
Some cumulous clouds make a boring flight a little more interesting.
   
Still a little hilly in eastern Ohio.
   
I descend lower to check things out.
   
Western Ohio is flat as a billiard table.  Good farm country as you can see.
   
Passing by Marion Municipal Airport in Ohio.  I landed here a couple of times in the Citabria but never in the RV.  But Port Bucyrus Airport is just a few miles to the north and I've been there multiple times in the RV.
   
An interesting right triangle pond at the intersection of a railroad and Interstate highway.

Flying lower helps break up the monotany.

Now here's something you don't see much anymore:  a drive-in movie theater.
   
Building a big new facility of some sort.  An Artificial Intelligence data center perhaps?
   
Now following Interstate 30.

The town of Van Wert, Ohio.
   
I arrive at Van Wert County Airport.  I've been here a few times before.
   
But now they have a new FBO terminal at lower center.
   
On final for runway 270.
   
I had to go around because someone was still on the runway, so I took this aerial picture of the new FBO and Terminal building.
   
Lynnette was already here visiting her friend Jayne.  This is Bob and Jayne with kids and grandkids.
   
It was time to take the grandkids for rides.  My first rider was Luke.
   
 
   
My second rider was Colton who likes airplanes and wants to be a pilot someday.
   
My third rider was Ibon, who isn't a grandkid, but is an exchange student from Spain.  
 
   
And my final rider was Eva who was nervous at first but ended up greatly enjoying the ride.
